Two of our print projects for Ian Davenport, ‘Mirrored Enamel’ and ‘Pathway’ are featured in the artist’s solo exhibition at Cristea Roberts Gallery.

Ian Davenport: Pathway opened at Cristea Roberts Gallery earlier this month, and we are delighted to have two of our projects presented at the exhibition: ‘Mirrored Enamel’, 2022, and ‘Pathway’, 2024.

Our latest work for Davenport, the ‘Pathway’ group of prints, feature symmetrically arranged streams of colour. Building on the process we developed working on the ‘Mirrored Enamel’ suite, we’ve used a total of 118 colours of gloss enamel inks, which produce a finish similar to the gloss paint used in Davenport’s poured paintings.

Like the ‘Mirrored Enamel’ series, the ‘Pathway’ editions were printed from the same screens, which allowed Davenport to play with colour compositions and the character of the artwork.

“Colour relationships are crucial to [Mirrored Enamel, 2022, and Pathway, 2024], as their arrangements oscillate between vibrating and vanishing boundaries and illusions of transparency. Making these colour investigations in editioned form affords Davenport the possibility of creating multiple compositions to fully explore colour and tonal variations in a way that is not possible in another medium.”

It’s been a pleasure to work with Davenport and Cristea Roberts Gallery on a silkscreen project again. Seeing work we’ve printed two years apart together for the first time has been a fulfilling reminder of the fantastic things our teams have done and continue to do.
