Frank Bowling

Sir Frank Bowling, (b. 1934, Bartica, Guyana), lives and works in London. He graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1962. As an artist and contributing editor of Arts Magazine in New York (1969-1972), he made an early and significant contribution to debates about African American art. Bowling was appointed Royal Academician in the UK in 2005 and was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2008 and a Knighthood for services to the arts in 2020.

In 2022, Bowling was awarded the Wolfgang Hahn Prize by the Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst, and Bowling's painting Flogging the Dead Donkey (2020) will become part of the Museum Ludwig collection. Atelier JI was proud to produce the edition of Rampartsoo, which features the drip edge of the painting.
