Relief Printing

We offer expert technical support in traditional relief printmaking. Clients may choose to prepare their own printing blocks, or provide their artwork for our printmakers to carve either hand-engraved or CNC-cut woodblocks from.

Relief printing is available on paper as large as double elephant - 90 x 180 cm.

  • Woodblock printing involves cutting a design into the surface of a board or block of wood. The areas that remain after cutting hold the ink applied with a roller. Both hand tools and power tools can be used to cut the image into the block of wood, and we can advise the best method for each project.

  • In Lino-cutting, a soft block of linoleum is carved away leaving the raised areas to be inked and printed. The image is then transferred onto paper.

Lino is a material manufactured from linseed oil and is much easier to cut than wood. As it has no grain (like wood-block), lino can be cut in any direction.
