Special Applications & Finishing

Finishing your edition with varnish can bring out details when used on a specific area of the print or enhance the overall colour when used on the entire printed area. Varnishes are available in a number of finishes, including Matte, Satin, Gloss, or High Gloss.

Clients are welcome to choose from a great number of ink systems to vary the finish of their artwork. We are able to print using fluorescent, glow-in-the-dark (phosphorescent), iridescent, metallic or high build inks. We are also able to mix custom inks using artist provided materials, e.g. Ash. We offer various colours and grain sizes of diamond dust that produce a luminous effect to your edition. We are also able to apply any shape, size, or colour of glitter to a print, either as a surface texture for a vibrant finish or in a varnish to provide a subtle shimmer. Any type of metallic leaf can be applied to your print, either to bring out fine details or to cover a background. We are also able to print on top of a metallic leaf, which yields an exquisite depth of texture. See our editions for Hua Tunan and Conor Harrington.

We are able to add flocking to an area or background of a print to create a raised area of velvety, fluffy texture. This playful technique allows for light to be caught in a unique manner, which can also create a shiny effect.

Embossing and debossing can be used on an area of the artwork, creating a sculptural element to the paper that plays with light and the position of the viewer. Debossing can also be used around the border of an edition to give the printed area depth. See our edition for Nazgol Ansarinia for an example.

Our team will cut down each print by hand using a scalpel to create a uniform finish. This method allows for a full bleed (where the printed area reaches the edge of the paper).

By hand-tearing each print down, we can produce an organic finish to your edition that draws attention to the beauty and craftsmanship of the paper stock. Deckled edges are fantastic at showcasing the handmade, bespoke nature of both your artwork and the edition.
