New Work by Nazgol Ansarinia
Nazgol Ansarinia’s Membrane (2019) was published by Parasol Unit Foundation for Contemporary Art to mark the occasion of two group exhibitions, THE SPARK IS YOU: Parasol Unit in Venice and Nine Iranian Artists in London: THE SPARK IS YOU, presented concurrently through the Spring-Summer of 2019.
In her sculptural installations featured in the exhibitions, the artist explores the changing architectural landscape of Tehran. Nazgol Ansarinia presents a vicious dichotomy between the destruction and intense urban transformation that is rampant throughout the city, often using this as the starting point for her works. As buildings are destroyed throughout the transformation of the city, ghostly remnants of the demolished houses sometimes survive on the conjoined wall of new developments, presenting a vivid link between past and present.
This limited edition pigment print mirrors the large-scale piece entitled Membrane, a three-dimensional scanned impression of marks left over time on a now-demolished wall, like a tangible memorial to the past. The embossing technique used to produce this print creates a subtle, barely perceptible relief in the paper, resurfacing the texture of the architectural walls evoked in the eponymous piece.
The print Membrane by Nazgol Ansarinia can be purchased as an individual print or part of The Spark Is You Limited Edition Portfolio, presented in a bespoke collectable box, including 10 Artists’ Prints by; Morteza Ahmadvand, Nazgol Ansarinia, Siah Armajani, Sahand Hesamiyan, Y.Z.
