Odili Donald Odita - ‘Firewall’

Odili Donald Odita’s ‘Firewall’ series printed at Atelier JI debuted at the Cristea Roberts Gallery booth in Art Basel Miami Beach over the weekend. The four screenprints were Odita’s first collaboration with the gallery and also his first major project at this scale in silkscreen.

“We are delighted to unveil four new screenprints by artist Odili Donald Odita, featuring the geometric patterns and vibrant hues, characteristic of a practice which is concerned with the power and dynamics of colour.

Exploring colour both in the figurative historical context and in the sociopolitical sense, Odita’s art is also rooted in his deep knowledge of both modernist hard-edge abstraction and West African textiles.

He combines these influences to create bold, often large-scale, compositions that celebrate the influence of African formal abstraction on Modernist traditions.

Achieving the same ambition of colour and complexity as the artist’s paintings, the set of four works which comprise Firewall is the artist’s first major project at this scale in silkscreen and his first collaboration with Cristea Roberts Gallery.”
