Rachel Whiteread
Rachel Whiteread hand-finishing 'House', 2023, at Atelier JI. Published by Migrate Art
One of Britain’s leading contemporary artists, Rachel Whiteread (b. 1963, London) uses industrial materials such as plaster, concrete, resin, rubber and metal to cast everyday objects and architectural space. Her evocative sculptures range from the intimate to the monumental. In Whiteread’s sculptures and drawings, everyday settings, objects, and surfaces are transformed into ghostly replicas that are eerily familiar.
In 2023, Atelier JI collaborated with Whiteread and Migrate Art to produced an edition of ‘House’, an artwork created using pencils salvaged from a school in the demolished Calais refugee camp.
