John Simpson
'Omega & the Bear', 2014, Published by Eyestorm
Drawing forms the principal point for John Simpson’s (b. Gloucestershire, 1975) work, which sits somewhere between childhood imagination and adult reasoning. Simpson’s palette is frequently monochromatic, with the occasional interference or splash of vivid colour. Simpson paints using a monotype process (primarily a printmaking method) to achieve a sensitivity of drawing and painting that is unachievable from the direct touch of a pen or artist’s brush.
In 2014 Atelier JI worked with John Simpson producing, ‘Omega and the Bear’, a beautiful 9 colour screen print published by Eyestorm - This was Simpson's first publication commissioned by leading contemporary print publisher, Eyestorm.
