Helen Beard - ‘Afterglow’ Limited Edition Now Available

Helen Beard’s ‘Afterglow’ limited woodcut edition marks Atelier JI’s second print collaboration with Unit Gallery, London.
Taking inspiration from Helen Frankenthaler’s woodcuts and after visiting the Artist’s first major UK exhibition titled ‘Radical Beauty’ at Dulwich Picture Gallery, Beard began collaborating with Atelier JI on her first woodcut edition.
Based on the traditional art of mokuhanga (known for Japanese ukiyo-e prints), woodcuts utilise the texture of the grain and the natural absorbency of the wood in order to apply bright colours with vibrancy and texture. These qualities lend themselves to Beard’s bold and graphic art style, whilst adding a layer of tenderness and delicacy to ‘Afterglow’ which depicts an image of introspective masculinity. The studio worked closely with the artist over a period of 8 months to experiment and produce this 12 colour woodcut.
