Loie Hollowell - ‘Red Earth’ edition for Migrate Art’s Scorched Earth project

In 2020, Loie Hollowell donated a painting titled ‘Red Earth’ to Migrate Art’s ‘Scorched Earth’ Charity Auction. Migrate Art presented a collection of new works created in direct response to the widespread burning of crop fields in Iraqi Kurdistan. Deliberately set to be intimidating and destructive the fires devastated crop lands, impacted revenues, and threatened food security across the region. To memorialise the catastrophe, Migrate Art produced a paint made from ash collected from the burnt fields.

Participating artists incorporated the pigment into a series of works made in response to this humanitarian and ecological disaster. The works were auctioned at Christie’s and its proceeds from were divided between Migrate Art and its three charity partners: RefuAid, Refugee Community Kitchen, and The Lotus Flower, whose work supports those impacted by homelessness and the global refugee crisis.

Following on from the success of the ‘Scorched Earth’ auction, Migrate Art began creating limited edition prints to further support this humanitarian and ecological disaster. Atelier JI created the ‘Red Earth’ limited edition screenprint for Migrate Art and Loie Hollowell.
